our Story since 1986
Since opening its doors on December 13, 1986, Stingaree Restaurant & Marina has become one of the most recognizable landmarks on Bolivar Peninsula. What began as a dream shared by Jim Vratis and his brother George has grown into a beloved waterfront destination where generations of families, anglers, and beachgoers have gathered to enjoy fresh seafood, beautiful sunsets, and genuine Texas hospitality.
Today, the restaurant is proudly owned and operated by Brad Vratis, who traded a successful corporate career to continue his family’s legacy. Under Brad’s leadership, Stingaree has evolved while staying true to its roots. From transforming DownUnder Bar & Grill into its own vibrant destination to supporting local fishermen and seafood suppliers, Brad’s vision has always been focused on creating memorable experiences rather than simply serving meals.
Nearly four decades later, Stingaree remains family-owned and committed to the values it was built on—authentic hospitality, fresh local seafood, strong community ties, and the laid-back coastal atmosphere that has made it a favorite destination for visitors from across Texas and beyond. While the restaurant has grown over the years, its mission remains the same: to welcome every guest like family and create memories that last long after the meal is over.
